Newton County Academy’s Kemp Alderman was recently named to several baseball lists, cementing his place as one of the top high school baseball players in the country.
The National High School Baseball Coaches Association named Alderman to the 2020 Mississippi Coaches Association Pre-season All-American team. There were 21 players named to the team and only three players from MAIS schools were named.
Perfect Game also recently released a list of the Top 10 high school corner infielders for the upcoming 2020 MLB draft.
Alderman was listed as the No. 9 prospect on the list while Desoto Central’s Blaze Jordan was listed as the No. 2 corner infielder on the list.
The website gave a scout’s view of Alderman heading to the draft, which takes place on June 10-12.
“Young for the grade with two-way upside, Alderman is a massive prospect who likely fits best at first base long term,” the website stated. “He’ll be attractive to model friendly teams given his age and massively high impact offensively as he’ll routinely turn in very high exit velocities on batted balls; on the mound he works in the low-90s with very good sink and a solid slider.”
Alderman, an Ole Miss signee, was also named a first-team Senior Preseason All-American, one of just three players from Mississippi to be named to the elite team which features the top 50 players in the country.
Through 12 games this season, Alderman was hitting .586 with 12 RBIs. Alderman had four home runs and three doubles with 15 runs scored. Alderman had also been walked 15 times on the season. On the mound, Alderman was 2-1 with a 1.34 ERA in 15 2/3 innings pitched. He struck out 29 batters and walked 15, giving up just nine hits in 75 batters faced.
Alderman, a 6-foot-4, 235-pound senior, hit .569 last year with 36 runs scored, 41 RBIs, eight doubles and 12 home runs. Alderman was 8-3 on the mound with a 2.83 ERA with 90 strikeouts in 47 innings pitched.
Alderman was also named to the Clarion-Ledger All-State baseball team and was the MAIS Class AA Player of the year. Alderman was also named the Meridian Star’s Premier Preps of East Mississippi Player of the Year for the second straight year. He was also named to the Premier Preps of East Mississippi football team as well. Alderman was also named an MAIS all-star in football as well.
