It was a rough week on the basketball courts for the Newton County Academy teams.
Both teams lost all three games they played, falling to Laurel Christian, Park Place and Brookhaven Academy.
NCA will return to action this week when they host Park Place on Monday and travel to Carroll on Tuesday. They will host Tri-County on Thursday to round out their pre-Thanksgiving schedule.
Laurel Chr. girls 30, NCA 23
Laurel jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back as they held on to take a nine-point win.
Laurel led 12-3 at the end of the first and 17-10 at the half. Each team scored two in the third and 11 in the fourth for the final margin.
Cayden Alexander led NCA with eight points.
Laurel Chr. boys 52, NCA 40
Laurel opened up a double-digit lead in the first half and held that margin to take a 12-point win over the Generals on Monday.
Laurel led 9-4 at the end of the first and 22-11 at the half. NCA outscored Brookhaven 13-11 in the third before Brookhaven took the fourth 17-14 for the final margin.
Kemp Alderman had a big night with 26 points and 22 rebounds while Austin Upton had eight points and eight rebounds.
Park Place girls 47, NCA 34
The Lady Generals couldn’t hold onto an early lead as the Lady Crusaders pulled away with a 13-point win.
NCA led 7-3 at the end of the first before Park Place outscored the Lady Generals 16-7 to lad 19-18 at the half. Park Place then outscored NCA 14-9 in the third and 14-7 in the fourth.
Jordan Russell led NCA with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Park Place boys 51, NCA 27
The Crusaders pulled away in the second half to take a 24-point win over the Generals.
Park Place led 16-7 at the end of the first before NCA outscored the Crusaders 15-5 to take a 22-21 lead at the half. But Park Place pulled away in the second half, outscoring NCA 14-4 in the third and 16-1 in the fourth.
Riley Boswell led NCA with 12 points.
Brookhaven girls 58, NCA 36
The Lady Cougars outscored the Lady Generals in every period as they pulled away for a 22-point win.
Brookhaven led 15-8 at the end of the first and 31-23 at the half. Brookhaven started to pull away in the second half as they outscored NCA 10-4 in the third and 17-9 in the fourth.
Asten Russell led NCA with 19 points.
Brookhaven 63, NCA 15
The Cougars opened up a huge lead in the first period and cruised to a 48-point win on Friday night.
Brookhaven led 25-4 at the end of the first and 45-9 at the half. With a running clock in the second quarter, NCA outscored Brookhaven 6-3 in the third while the Cougars took the fourth period 15-0.
