The Newton County tennis team won both matches it played last week in a pair of matches at Jones County Junior College.
Newton County took a 6-1 over Brookhaven and a 4-3 win over Stone County.
In the 6-1 win over Brookhaven, the Cougars only lost one match, as Cade Cooley fell 6-1, 6-0 in boys singles. In girls singles, Marilyn Tullos needed three sets to take the win as she won 5-7, 6-1, 10-6.
In boys doubles, Lee Hill and Cole Tadlock won 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot while Parker Chaney and Donald Blake won 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. In girls doubles, Emily Stewart and Ava Espey won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot while Brenah Flint and Josie Tullos was 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. Tate Baucum and Lauren Addy needed three sets as they won 7-6(6), 4-6, 10-5.
In the 4-3 win over Stone County, Newton County swept the doubles action on the girls side to take the win.
In singles, Cade Cooley lost 6-2, 6-1 on the boys side while Josie Tullos won 6-0, 6-0 on the girls side.

In mixed doubled, Lee Hill and Brenah Flint secured the match as they took a 6-0, 6-2 win.
Newton County improves to 5-2 on the season.
