The Newton County tennis team got off on the right foot to start the season with an easy 6-1 win over Florence on Saturday at Forest.
Newton County dominated the doubles positions, winning all of those points In boys doubles, Parker Chaney and Tate Baucum won at the No. 1 spot 6-4, 6-1. Donald Blake and Cole Tadlock won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.
In girls doubles, Lauren Addy and Brenah Flint won 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot. Emily Stewart and Ava Espey won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spots.
In mixed doubles, Lee Hill and Maggie Bounds won 6-0, 6-0.
In singles, County split the points as Casey Cooley lost 6-4, 6-0 on the boys side. Josie Tullos won 6-0, 6-3 on the girls side.
In junior varsity action on Saturday, County won 4-3 over Clarkdale.
In singles, Chris Chertkow lost 6-2, 6-4 on the boys side. Abbye Chertkow lost 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 on the girls side.
In doubles, Newton County won all four points. On the boys side, Tate Baucum and Cole Tadlock won 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. Cade Cooley and Keaton Gray won 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. On the girls side, Marilyn Tullos and Alyssa McMullan won 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 1 spot. Aleah McMullan and Bella Miley won 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 2 spot.
In mixed doubles, Donald Blake and Katelyn Wall lost 6-1, 4-6, 10-4.
Newton County will return to action this week as they travel to Leake Central on Thursday and then play in the Jackson Classic on Saturday at the Reservoir YMCA.
