Each Newton County basketball team got a blowout win last week and both suffered one-point losses.
Against Scott Central on Tuesday, the Lady Cougars fell 47-46 to the Lady Rebels while the Cougars took an 81-35 win over the Rebels.
The roles were reversed on Thursday night as the Lady Cougars beat West Lauderdale 55-14 while the Cougars fell 41-40.
Newton County will return to action on Tuesday when they host Leake Central and will travel to Morton on Thursday.
County girls 55, West Lauderdale 14
The Lady Cougars outscored the Lady Knights in every period and cruised to a 41-point win.
County led 12-6 at the end of the first period and then outscored West 15-2 in the second and third periods to lead 42-10 at the end of the third. County finished out by outscoring West 13-4 in the fourth.
Jayden Mack led County with 13 points while Nahriah Brown had 10 points. Christaysia Denson also had eight points.
West Lauderdale boys 41, County 40
The Cougars missed a last-second shot as the Knights took a one-point win last week.
County led 15-11 at the end of the first and 21-18 at the half. West tied the game at 30-30 going into the fourth and outscored County 11-10 in the final frame to take the win.
Josiah Cleveland led County with 17 points while Davion Hillie had 16 rebounds.
Scott Central girls 47, Newton County 46
The Lady Cougars jumped out to a quick lead but dropped a one-point decision last week.
County led 14-5 at the end of the first period before Scott Central cut into the lead in the second, outscoring the Lady Cougars 12-7 to cut the lead to 21-17. County stretched the lead out again in the third, outscoring Scott Central 14-7 to take a 35-24 lead into the fourth where the Lady Rebels used a 23-11 advantage to take the win.
Hannah McDougle and Christaysia Denson led County with 10 points apiece while Keasja Wansley had seven points and Remni Nicky added six points.
County boys 81, Scott Central 35
The Cougars jumped out to a big lead in the first and cruised to the 46-point win over the Rebels.
County used big advantages in the first and third periods as they outscored Scott Central 30-8 in the first and 25-6 in the third to take the win.
County had five players in double figures, led by Josiah Cleveland who had 16 points. Davion Hillie and Jamaal Croft each had 12 points apiece while Jared Thames and Chris Thomas had 11 points apiece.
