The Newton County Lady Cougars rolled through the first round of the playoffs on Saturday with a pair of run-rule wins.
The Lady Cougars hammered Leake Central, winning 10-0 and 14-2 to sweep the series. County also beat Northeast Lauderdale 14-2 in the regular-season finale on Tuesday.
Newton County, now 27-2, travelled to Grenada on Tuesday for the second round of the playoffs.
County 10, Leake Central 0
Jada McDougle was 2-for-3 with home run, triple, two runs scored and three RBIs. Casey Dube was 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Katelyn Gipson was 2-for-4 with a double. Lizzy Hollingsworth and Katelyn Jackson were each 2-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored.
Natalie Lampton pitched all five innings for the win and gave up just three hits.
County 14, Leake Central 2
Jada McDougle was 3-for-3 with two home runs and three runs scored. Katelyn Gipson was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs while Casey Dube was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Lanie Phillips was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Lorren Ivey was 2-for-3. Maeli Ben doubled and drove in two runs while Lizzy Hollingsworth scored two runs.
Natalie Lampton pitched four innings to pick up the win while Chrisyia Denson pitched the last inning.
County 14, NE Lauderdale 2
Jada McDougle was 2-for-3 with two home runs, three runs scored and four RBIs. Lorren Ivey was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs while Lanie Phillips was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Haley McDowell and Maeli Ben were each 2-for-2 with two RBIs while Lizzy Hollingsworth doubled and scored two runs. Katelyn Gipson was 2-for-3 with a triple.
