The Newton County soccer teams grabbed a pair of wins in the East Central Christmas Tournament as the Cougars took a 5-0 win over Clarkdale and Lady Cougars took a 2-0 win over Ridgeland.
In the boys contest, the Cougars overcame a slow start and took a 5-0 win over the Bulldogs. Newton County led 1-0 at the half and added four second-half goals to take the win. Scoring goals for Newton County was Lee Hill, Cade Mangum, Gustavo Silva and Davi Roldan. Christian Velazquez had three assists while Roldan also had an assist.
In the girls game, the Lady Cougars took a 2-0 win over Ridgeland with a goal in each half.
The Lady Cougars improved to 9-5 on the season while the Cougars improved to 14-1 on the season. Newton County will return to play on Monday, Jan. 6 as they host Louisville and will play at Louisville on Tuesday, Jan. 7. County will finish out the week as they travel to Northeast Lauderdale on Friday, Jan. 10.
