With Division 6-2A play in full swing, both Newton basketball teams seem to be hitting their stride.
Both Newton teams won three games last week.
The Lady Tigers picked up a pair of division wins, beating Lake 41-26 and Union 40-24. They finished off the week with a 61-40 win over Northeast Jones on Saturday.
The Tigers also two out of the three games they played, beating Like 60-40 but losing to Union 70-61. Newton finished the week with a 72-71 overtime win over Sylva Bay on Saturday.
Newton will return to action this week as they travel to Philadelphia on Tuesday in a key division 6-2A contest. Newton will then host Scott Central on Friday to finish out the week.

Northeast Jones 40
The Lady Tigers used a big third period and took a 21-point win over Northeast Jones on Saturday at Bay Springs.
Newton jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the first period. Northeast Jones outscored Newton 14-10 in the second to cut the lead to 25-19 at the half. Newton then took control of the game in the third, outscoring Northeast Jones 21-4 to take a 46-25 lead into the fourth.
Zia Shields led newton with 26 points while Ja’Leah Hickmon added 19 points. Corneasha Jones also had 10 points.

Sylva Bay 71
The Tigers needed overtime to take a one-point win over the Saints on Saturday at Bay Springs.
Each team scored 18 points in the first period before Newton outscored Sylva Bay 21-8 in the second to take a 39-26 lead into the half. Sylva Bay started to mound a comeback in the second half, outscoring the Tigers 18-16 in the third and 20-9 in the fourth to send the game into overtime. Newton then outscored Sylva Bay 8-7 in the overtime period to take the win.
Kedrick Osby led Newton with 17 points while Justin Thompson had 13 points. Darrius Thames also chipped in 12 points.
Newton boys 60, Lake 40
The Tigers pulled away in the third period to take a 20-point win over the Hornets in a division contest on Tuesday.
Newton led 13-6 at the end of the first and outscored Lake 29-23 in the second to lead 42-29 at the half. Newton then pulled away in the third, outscoring Lake 22-6 to take a 64-35 lead into the fourth.
Kezarrian Wash led Newton with 14 points while Kedrick Osby had 12 points. Darrius Thames had 11 points while Tyreke Snow and Camron Blaylock each had seven points apiece. Rayvion Nettles and Justin Thompson each chipped in six points apiece.
Danarrius Hughes led Lake with 19 points while Zywon Ledbetter had 10 points.
Newton girls 41, Lake 26
The Lady Tigers finished strong and took a 15-point win over the Lady Hornets in a hard-fought defensive contest.
Newton led 10-9 at the end of the first and 21-13 at the half. After each team scored five points in the third period, Newton finished by outscoring Lake 15-8 to take the win.
Ja’Leah Hickmon led Newton with 20 points while Zia Shields had 16 points.
Laurel Breland led Lake with 10 points.
