Both Newton basketball teams played some close games last week but neither could come away with a win.
The Lady Tigers lost 50-44 to Southeast and 46-45 to Jackson Jim Hill while the Tigers lost 61-51 to Southeast and 58-55 to Jim Hill.
Newton will return to action this week as they host McLaurin on Tuesday while the Lady Tigers will play in the Kemper County Shootout on Friday and Saturday.

Southeast built an early lead and held off a late charge by Newton to take a six-point win.
Southeast outscored Newton 20-11 in the first and led 30-20 at the half. Newton outscored Southeast 13-10 in the third and 11-10 in the fourth but couldn’t finish off the comeback.
Ja’Leah Hickmon led Newton with 19 points while Zia Shields had 15 points.

Newton 51
Southeast outscored Newton by 17 points in the second half to come from behind and take a 10-point win.
Newton led 7-3 at the end of the first and 26-19 at the half. But Southeast rallied in the second half as they outscored Newton 19-12 in the third and 23-13 in the fourth to take the win.
Jayden Parker led Newton with 15 points while Kedrick Osby added 12 points. Justin Thompson and Rayvion Nettles each had seven points apiece.
Jim Hill girls 46, Newton 45
Newton missed a layup in the finals seconds as Jim Hill held on to take a one-point win on Saturday.
Jim Hill led 7-6 at the end of the first and 20-14 at the half. Newton fought back in the third, outscoring Jim Hill 20-12 to take a 34-32 lead. But Jim Hill took the fourth 14-11 to take the one-point win.
Adora McDaniel led Newton with 15 points while Ja’Leah Hickmon had 11 points. Zia Shields had nine points and Cornesha Jones added six points.
Jim Hill boys 58, Newton 55
Newton put together a furious comeback in the fourth period but fell three points short to Jim Hill on Saturday.
Jim Hill dominated the first three periods, leading 19-12 at the end of the first and 31-21 at the half. Jim Hill outscored Newton 12-7 in the third to extend its lead to 42-28. Newton outscored Jim Hill 26-15 in the fourth for the final margin.
Kezarrion Wash and Kedrick Osby each had 11 points while Kaleb Traxler had seven points. Rayvion Nettles and Tyreke Snow each had six points apiece.
