The Lake Lady Hornets showed why they are the defending Class 2A champions last week, winning five games.
Lake opened the week with a 21-0 win over Philadelphia and then beat Pelahatchie 12-0 on Thursday. On Friday, Lake took a 5-3 win over St. Martin and then grabbed two wins on Saturday, beating Puckett 6-4 and Sumrall 11-10.
Lake improves to 10-2 on the season and will be off until they play in the Enterprise Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Lake 21, Philadelphia 0
The Lady Hornets needed just two innings to take a run-rule win over the Lady Tornadoes in division play on Monday.
Lake scored nine in the first and finished with 12 in the second inning.
Lake had 10 hits, had seven hit batters, drew six walks and took advantage of five errors. Adyson McNight was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and four RBIs while Abbie McGee was 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs. Kate Gladney homered and drove in three runs while Josie Gibbs and Alaina Alford each scored three runs apiece. Kinsley Woods, Tra’Shaylah Wilson, Katlyn Lott and Lyric Lay each scored two runs apiece.
Gladney started in the circle and pitched three perfect innings, striking out all nine batters she faced on 39 pitches.
Lake 12, Pelahatchie 0
The Lady Hornets only gave up one hit and took a four-inning, run-rule win over the Lady Chieftains on Thursday.
Lake scored six on the first, one in the second and three in the third.
Lake had eight hits as Katlyn Lott was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Kate Gladney doubled and scored two runs while Adyson McKnight also doubled. Sadie Thompson singled and drove in two runs while Lyric Lay scored three runs.
Alaina Alford pitched four innings and gave up one hit and one walk while striking out three.
Lake 5, St. Martin 3
The Lady Hornets used a three-run fourth inning and held on to take a two-run win on Friday at the West Harrison Tournament.
Each team scored a single run in the first while St. Martin scored one in the third. Lake then scored three in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. Lake added a fun in the fifth while St. Martin scored one in the seventh.
Lake outhit St. Martin 11-7 in the contest. Kate Gladney was 2-for-3 with two doubles while Abbie McGee was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Josie Gibbs was 2-for-3 while Kinsley Woods scored two runs.
Gladney started in the circle and pitched seven innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three.
Lake 6, Puckett 4
The Lady Hornets use a pair of three-run innings to take a two-run win over the Lady Wolves, despite committing six errors in the field.
Puckett scored one in the first and Lake took the lead with three in the third. After Puckett scored to in the fourth to tie the game, Lake answered with three in the fifth. Puckett then scored one in the seventh for the final margin.
Lake outhit Puckett 9-7 in the game. Abbie McGee was 3-for-3 with a double while Josie Gibbs was 2-for04 with a triple. Adyson McKnight doubled and drove in a run while Tra’Shaylah Wilson singled and drove in two runs.
Alaina Alford pitched all seven innings and gave up four runs, only one earned on seven hits and a walk while striking out four.
Lake 11, Sumrall 10
Lake rallied late and used 15 hits to take a one-run win over Sumrall on Saturday.
Lake scored three in the top of the third while Sumrall answered with five in the bottom of the third. Lake then answered with five runs in the fourth and added single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to take the win.
Lake outhit Sumrall 15-9 as Brantlee McGee was 3-for-4 with four runs scored while Abbie McGee was 3-for-5 with tow RBIs. Katlyn Lott was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Kate Gladney was 2-for-5. Josie Gibbs was 2-for-5 with two doubles while Lyric Lay scored twice.
Grace McKee pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up five unearned runs on three hits and four walks. Kate Gladney pitched the last 3 2/3 innings and gave up six runs and stuck out two.
