The Union Yellowjackets won two out of three games this past week at the Lamar School Christmas Tournament.
The Yellowjackets started off the tournament with a 36-30 loss to Presbyterian Christian on Monday. They responded with a pair of wins, pounding Sylva Bay Academy 68-36 and then beating Northeast Lauderdale 41-40 on Wednesday.
Union will return from the Christmas break and open up Division 6-2A play as they host Scott Central on Tuesday, Jan. 5. They will then be off until Tuesday, Jan. 12 when they travel to Lake.
Union boys 36, Presbyterian Christian 30
The Yellowjackets fell behind early and fell by six in a tough defensive battle.
PCS jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the first period and led 19-13 at the half. PCS outscored Union 11-6 in the third and led 30-19 at the end of the third. Union took the fourth 11-6 for the final margin.
Jamarcus Jones led Union with 13 points while Bryce Jones had six points.
Union boys 68, Sylva Bay 36
The Yellowjackets rebounded from a tough loss on Monday to take a 32-point win on Tuesday.
The Yellowjackets got off to fast starts in each half to take the win. Union led 17-8 at the end of the first period and 29-18 at the half. Union then took control of the game in the third period, outscoring Sylva Bay 26-7 in the third to take a 55-25 lead into the fourth.
Union used a balanced scoring attack to take the win as E.J. Campbell led the way with 16 points. Jamarcus Jones had 14 points while Kenyon Clay had 11 points. Keon Hutchins had 10 points while Bryce Young added six points.
Union 41, NE Lauderdale 40
The Yellowjackets overcame an early deficit and came back to take a one-point win over Class 4A Northeast on Wednesday.
Northeast controlled most of the first half as they led 13-10 at the end of the first and 23-17 at the half. Union started to mount its comeback in the third as they outscored Northeast 9-7 to cut the lead to 30-26. Union then outscored Northeast 15-10 in the fourth to take the win.
Jamarcus Jones was the only player in double digits for Union with 19 points while Dylan Harrison had six points and E.J. Campbell added five points.
