It was a big year for former Newton County Academy standout Kemp Alderman.
A year after winning the national championship, Alderman was one of the best players in the country for Ole Miss.
Alderman led Ole Miss in nearly every offensive category, hitting .376 with a slugging percentage of .709 and on-base percentage of .440. He had 80 hits with 61 RBI, 19 home runs, and 151 total bases. He also led the team in two-out RBI (23) and batting average with runners on base (.393).
Alderman was selected as the Ferriss Cup Award winner as the state’s top collegiate baseball player along with being named to multiple All-American teams.
Alderman then capped off an outstanding collegiate season when he was drafted by the Miami Marlins with the No. 47 pick in the second round of the MLB draft.
After signing with the Marlins, Alderman was assigned to Jupiter, Miami’s Class A affiliate where he finished out the minor-league season. The Hammerheads won the Florida State Championship while Alderman had eight doubles, one home run, 15 RBIs and four steals in 34 games.
