Three area football players gained statewide attention after having monster seasons on the gridiron.
Sebastopol’s Adarius McDougle was named the Class 2A Mr. Football after leading the Bobcats to a 10-2 record. McDougle rushed for 1,868 yards and a 32 TDs while throwing for another 464 yards and six TDs. He was also named the Class 2A Offensive Player of the Year.
Also on the Class 2A team was Lake’s Demetrius Towner. Towner was named the Class 2A Defensive Player of the year after recording 111.5 tackles from his defensive tackle position for the Hornets. Towner also recorded 56 tackles for loss, which was the highest reported total in the state of Mississippi.
But perhaps the biggest season came from Newton County Academy’s Hunter Scarbrough, who was named the MAIS Class 2A Offensive Player of the year. Scarbrough rushed for 2,373 yards on 193 carries with a whopping 41 touchdowns, leading the area with 351 points.
