Sr., QB, Newton County, 6-0, 190
Mapp returns at quarterback for the Cougars after missing most of last year with broken arm. Mapp played in five games last year, including a big playoff win against Moss Point. Mapp was an Elite 11 pick for the Cougars last year and according to cache Bobby Bass, has a big arm.
“He is a kid that is under the radar right now mainly because he missed so many games last year,” Newton County coach Bobby Bass said. “Once we play some games, I think he will pick up a lot of interest. He is one of the hardest working kids that I have ever coached and I have coached a lot of kids. He’s here working out every day, usually before I get here. He’s got a live arm and I worry about him throwing too much. He still has to make some growth in his reads and that will come the more we are able to practice and he has gotten a lot. He can make all the throws. Him missing all those games and the camps this summer really hurt him.”
Bass said Mapp has gotten interest from East Central but no official offers. Bass said he expects more schools to pick up interest in him as the year goes on and Mapp gets more games under his belt.
