The Lake Hornets moved into position to win the Division 4-2A championship with a sweep of rival Scott Central.
Lake beat Scott Central 8-4 on Tuesday and took a 9-4 win on Friday to sweep the two-game series from the Rebels.
Lake, now 16-5 on the season, will try to wrap up the Division 4-2A championship this week with a two-game series with Union. The Hornets will host the Yellowjackets on Tuesday and travel to Union on Friday. The Hornets will finish off the week on Saturday at Raleigh in a noon contest.
Lake 8, Scott Central 4
Lake had 13 hits and doubled up Scott Central to take a four-run win on Tuesday in 4-2A play.
Lake scored on in the first and three in the second. Scott Central scored three in the third to cut the lead to 4-3. But Lake added three more runs in the fifth inning and one in the seventh to take the win.
Lake had 13 hits, including three home runs. Brady McGee was 4-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Mark Qualls was 3-for-5 with a double while Mickey Parker was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored. Will Geter also had a home run and drove in three runs.
Drew Moore got the start and pitched six innings as he gave up four runs on five hits and five walks while striking out 13. Brady McGee pitched one inning and struck out two.
Lake 9, Scott Central 4
The Hornets used a five-run third inning to build a 9-1 lead and sweep the season series from rival Scott Central.
Lake scored one in the first and fourth, two in the second and five in the third. Scott Central scored one in the third and three in the fifth.
Lake had 13 hits in the contest as Mickey Parker went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Brady McGee was 2-for-3 and had four RBIs. Drew Moore was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Mark Qualls was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Nathon Lott was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Grant Tune got the start and pitched four innings and gave up four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out eight to pick up the win. Brady McGee pitched the final three innings and scattered three hits while striking out four.
