Union’s softball season came to an end last week as they were swept in a two-game series by East Union.
The Lady Urchins took game 1 of the series 12-6 in Union on Tuesday and finished off the series with a 4-1 win on Wednesday.
Union finishes the season with a 13-11 record.
East Union 12, Union 6
The Lady Yellowjackets dropped game 1 of the series to the Lady Urchins on Tuesday.
East Union scored two in the first and second innings before Union answered with three in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 4-3. But East Union added three in the fourth and four in the fifth to extend the lead to 11-3. Union added a single run in the fifth and two in the sixth while East Union scored one in the seventh.
East Union outhit Union 9-5 in the contest and took advantage of six errors by the Lady Yellowjackets. Dallas Brown was 2-for-4 in the contest while Ansley Rigby singled and drove in two runs. DaShayla Jackson doubled, had an RBI and scored twice while Kenley Pullin also singled. Jordan Turner walked twice and scored a run while Britli Cleveland, Debbie Hunter and Kaylee Holley each scored runs for Union.
Britli Cleveland pitched all seven innings for Union, allowing only two earned runs while giving up nine hits and five walks and striking out five.
East Union 4, Union 1
The Lady Yellowjackets were eliminated in game 2 of the series on Wednesday to bring their season to a close.
East Union scored two in the first and one in the second and third innings. Union scored its lone run in the third.
Union had just three hits, all singles by Anna Grace Blount, Kenley Pullin and Britli Cleveland.
Cleveland pitched all seven innings, giving up just six hits while striking out four.
