Marina Olmstead of Chunky kicked off the 2017-2018 Short Course Swim Season with lots of gold.
At the Makos Fall Invitational Swim Meet held on Oct. 6-8 in Flowood, Olmstead won gold in 7 out of 9 races (50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke and 100-yard butterfly).
Olmstead achieved four personal best times. She beat swimmers from 12 teams from Mississippi and Louisiana to win the High Point Award for Senior Girls.
Sister Maya Olmstead competed in the 13-14 Girls age group and placed in the top 10 in 4 races (50yd Freestyle, 100yd Freestyle, 100yd Butterfly, 200yd Breaststroke) and scored 7 personal best times.
