Lake’s baseball season came to a screeching halt last week as Calhoun City swept the Hornets in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs.
Calhoun City took Game 1 of the series 8-3 and finished off the series with a 9-2 win on Saturday.
Lake finished the season with a 21-9 record. Calhoun City advances to take on East Union.
Calhoun City 8, Lake 3
The Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held on to take a five-run win on Friday night.
Calhoun scored one in the first and three in the third. Lake scored two in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 4-2. After a scoreless fourth and fifth, Calhoun scored four runs in the sixth to take an 8-2 lead. Lake added another run in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin.
Lake had five hits but committed five errors. Mark Qualls had a double, one run scored and one RBI. Drew Moore and Desmond Harris each singled and scored while Nathon Lott singled and drove in a run.
Brady McGee got the start on the mound, pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up eight unearned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five. Mickey Parker pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, gave up two hits and struck out two.
Calhoun City 9, Lake 2
Calhoun City finished off the series on Saturday with a seven-run win.
After each team scored one run in the first inning, Calhoun scored two in the third and six in the fifth to take control of the game. Lake scored one run in the sixth for the final margin.
Calhoun outhit Lake 12-4. Drew Moore was 2-for-2 with a double and one run scored while Mickey Parker had a double and Mark Qualls singled.
Nathon Lott got the start and pitched six innings, giving up nine runs on 12 hits and three walks while striking out five.
