The Newton County Lady Cougars took a pair of shutout wins last week, thanks to a pair of dominant pitching performances.
The lady Cougars shut out Northeast Lauderdale 10-0 on Wednesday and then beat rival West Lauderdale 9-0 on Thursday to wrap up another Division 5-4A championship.
Newton County improved to 20-4 on the season and will host Enterprise on Tuesday for Senior Night. The Lady Cougars will then be off until Tuesday, April 23 when they begin the Class 4A playoffs.

The Lady Cougars got a dominating performance from Shelby Anderson to take a shutout win over the rival Lady Knights on Thursday.
County scored four in the first, one in the fourth and two in the fifth and seventh.
County outhit Northeast 7-2 in the contest, led by Brittany Thomas who was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Katelyn Gipson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Lizzy Hollingsworth singled and had two RBIs. Thomas and Brelie Phillips each had two stolen basses apiece for the Lady Cougars.
Anderson was dominant in the circle, going all seven innings and giving up just two hits and three walks while striking out six.

The Lady Cougars scored in every inning and took a five-inning, run-rule win over the Lady Trojans on Wednesday.
County scored two runs in the first and second innings, one in the third and fifth and four in the fourth.
County had seven hits and four batters hit by a pitch. Katelyn Gibson was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and three RBIs while Lorren Ivey was hit by a pitch twice and scored three runs. Shelby Anderson doubled and drove in a run while Brittany Thomas and Karlye Tolbird each singled, scored a run had an RBI.
Brittany Thomas started and pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up just two hits and struck out four while Ivey pitched 2/3 of an inning.
