Newton County only got in one softball game this week and made it count as they hammered Morton 17-4 on Thursday.
The Lady Cougars are now 14-2 on the season.
Newton County returns to action this week when they host Raleigh on Tuesday and will travel to Quitman on Thursday in their only scheduled action this week.
The Lady Cougars overcame a 4-1 deficit to hammer Morton in a division contest on Thursday.
County scored nine in the second, four in the third and three in the fourth.
Newton County had 17 hits in the contest and belted four home runs. Katelyn Gipson led the way, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored, two home runs, a triple and five RBIs. Jada McDougle was 3-for-4 with four runs scored, three RBIs, two doubles and a home run. Brittany Thomas was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, three RBIs and a home run.
Lizzy Hollingsworth and Landree Amis were each 2-for-3 and drove in two runs as Hollingsworth had a double and Amis had two doubles. Lanie Phillips continued her hot hitting, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Jessi Thaggard was also 2-for-3.
