After opening the week up with a disappointing run-rule loss to Enterprise, the Lake Lady Hornets bounced back and took a pair of impressive wins.
After an 18-8 loss to Enterprise on Monday, Lake beat 2A contender Philadelphia 5-4 and then run-ruled defending 2A South state champion Bay Springs 19-5.
Lake will return to action this week when the Lady Hornets travel to Pelahatchie on Tuesday and host Stringer on Thursday. The Lady Hornets will travel to Enterprise on Saturday and will play Meridian at 11:45 a.m. and Wayne County at 1:30 p.m.
Enterprise 18, Lake 8
Lake had 11 hits in the contest as Hanna Wilkerson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Olivia Clay was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Reagan Clark was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.
Lake 5, Philadelphia 4
In a battle of 2A contenders, Lake scored three runs in the top of the seventh and held on in the bottom of the frame for a one-run win on Tuesday.
Philly scored one run in the bottom of the first inning while Lake had two in the top of the fourth. Philly tied it with a single run in the bottom of the fifth. Lake then scored three in the top of the seventh and two in the bottom of the seventh for the final margin.
Lake had 11 hits on the contest as Taylor Duncan, Kaytie Hillman and Kate Gladney each had two hits. Hanna Wilkerson had a solo home run while Reagan Clark and Olivia Clay each had doubles.
Lake 19, Bay Springs 5
The Lady Hornets exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a run-rule victory over the defending South 2A champion Lady Bulldogs on Thursday.
Lake had a whopping 24 hits in the contest as Landry LeBlanc and Hanna Wilkerson each had two home runs with one of Wilkerson’s being a grand slam. LeBlanc was 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored while Wilkerson was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and six RBIs. Taylor Duncan was 4-for-4 with three runs scored while Olivia Clay was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Alana Edmonds and Laurel Breland were each 3-for-4 while Reagan Clark was 2-for-3. Jordan McLemore, Kate Gladney and Tiea Hunt each scored two runs.
Breland and Duncan each had two doubles while Clark, Clay, LeBlanc and McLemore each had a double.
