The Newton. County Academy Generals came up two games short of playing for the Class AA state championship.
The Generals lost two straight to Brookhaven Academy as the Cougars won 12-3 on Tuesday and 4-3 on Wednesday to sweep the series.
NCA finishes the season with a 17-14 record.
Brookhaven 12, NCA 3
The Cougars scored seven runs in the fifth inning and took a nine-run win in game 1 of the series on Tuesday.
Brookhaven scored two in the first inning and one in the top of the third to lead 3-0. NCA scored two in the bottom of the third and each team scored one in the fourth as Brookhaven led 4-3 after four. But the Cougars then scored seven in the fifth and one in the sixth to take the win.
NCA had just three hits as Hayden West singled and drove in two runs while Harber Reese and Hayden Wall also singled. Dalton Sibley, Lincoln Jordan and Lee Hollingsworth each scored a run while Kemp Alderman drew two walks.
Alderman started on the mound and pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up five runs on three hits and six walks while striking out six. Hays West gave up three runs on two hits and two walks while Alec Thompson gave up three runs on three hits. Jacob Smith pitched the last 2 1/3 innings and gave up one run on two hits and struck out three.
Brookhaven 4, NCA 3
The Cougars scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a walk-off win and advance to the Class AA championship series on Wednesday.
Brookhaven scored two in the first and NCA tied it up with two in the top of the second. The scored stayed 2-2 until NCA scored a single run in the top of the seventh. Brookhaven then scored two in the bottom of the frame for the final margin.
NCA outhit Brookhaven 7-4 in the contest. Hays West was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Hayden Wall was 2-for-4 and scored a run. Dalton Sibley singled and drove in a run while Lincoln Jordan singled and scored a run. Alex Thompson also had a double while Kemp Alderman drew four walks.
Hayden West pitched 6 1/3 innings for NCA and took the loss. West allowed four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three.
