The Newton County Academy Lady Generals are fighting for their tournament life after falling into the loser’s bracket on Saturday in the South AA Tournament at Brookhaven.
The Lady Generals opened the tournament with a 4-0 win over Centreville but then dropped a 7-4 decision to Glenbrook to fall into the loser’s bracket.
The Lady Generals will continue in the South AA Tournament at 10 a.m. as they take on Amite and try to finish in the top four and qualify for the State AA Tournament.
NCA 16, Prentiss 0
Belle Hollingsworth was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Lexi Bounds was 2-for-2 and had two walks. Marla Graham was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Jordan Russell was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Riley Usry had two walks and scored three times while Kaleigh Cosgrove, Kelli Hollingsworth and Taylor Evans each scored two runs apiece.
Taylor Evans picked up the win on the mound, pitching a perfect game as she struck out eight in three innings in just 32 pitches.
NCA 4, Centreville 0
NCA had seven hits in the contest as Kaleigh Cosgrove led the way, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Kelli Hollingsworth was 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored while Marla Graham drove in two runs. Belle Hollingsworth had NCA’s other hit while Cayden Alexander scored NCA’s other run.
Glenbrook 7, NCA 4
NCA had eight hits in the contest as Belle Hollingsworth was 3-for-4 while Kelli Hollingsworth scored twice. Lexi Bounds, Kaleigh Cosgrove, Taylor Evans and Marla Graham each had hits while Graham scored a run.
Lake gets only one win out of four-game week
The Lake Lady Hornets split a pair of division games last week and dropped a pair of doubleheaders to 5A power Neshoba Central on Tuesday.
Lake is now 15-8 on the season and will travel to Stringer on Thursday and host Clarkdale on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Lake 16, Newton 4
Olivia Clay wasa 2-for-2 in the contest and scored two runs while Alan Edmonds was 2-for-3 and had two RBIs. Reagan Clark was 2-for-2 and drove in two runs while Kate Gladney was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Tashylah Wilson, Jordan McLemore and Kaytie Hillman each scored two runs apiece while Laurel Breland scored two runs and drove in four runs.
Neshoba 13, Lake 0
Olivia Clay, Jordan McLemore and Reagan Clark each had hits for Lake.

Olivia Clay was the only Lady Hornet with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with one RBI. Laurel Breland and Kaytie Hillman each had a hit and scored a run while Reagan Clark and Alana Edmonds each had a hit.
Enterprise 6, Lake 2
Enterprise used a four-run fourth inning to take a key division win over the Lady Hornets.
Kaytie Hillman was 2-for-2 in the contest with a double, home run and drove in two runs while Laurel Breland, Olivia Clay, Hanna Wilkerson and Taylor Duncan each had hits.
