ECCC compete in MACJC event No. 2 in Wesson
East Central Community College golfers Bailey Threlkeld and Jacob Hamner tied for 15th place as the Warriors competed in Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges Conference Event No. 2 Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at Wolf Hollow Golf Club in Wesson.
Threlkeld and Hamner both shot 152 over the 36-hole, two-day tournament.
The Warriors finished sixth overall in the team competition, which was won by Meridian Community College.
Also scoring for East Central in the tournament were freshman Nathan Davis of Newton County, who shot 163 and tied for 36th; sophomore David Barry, who tied for 39th with a 164, and freshman Trenton Hundley, who shot 169 and finished in 41st place.
East Central will next compete in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Fall Invitational (MACJC Conference Event No. 3) Oct. 16-17 at Grand Bear Golf Club in Saucier.
ECCC soccer teams get draw, win on the Road at Pearl River
The East Central Community College women’s soccer team battled for 90 minutes of regulation play and 20 minutes of two overtimes, but could not find the net in a 0-0 draw with the Pearl River Community on Sept. 25.
In the men’s action that followed, East Central got a penalty kick from sophomore defender Tyler White in the 61st minute and held on for a 1-0 win over the Wildcats. Dylan Shoemaker got the shutout in goal for the Warriors, his second straight match without allowing a goal.
East Central soccer complete home sweep of Meridian
A goal by Tanner Lindsey with three minutes left in the second overtime gave the East Central Community College men’s soccer team a 2-1 win over the Meridian Community College Eagles on Friday night, Sept. 29.
The Warriors scored first in the match on a goal by freshman midfielder Francisco Romero in the 20th minute. Meridian would tie the match 1-1 with a goal in the 49th minute. The two teams remained tied after one 10-minute overtime period, before the game winner by Lindsey late in the second overtime. Lindsey was assisted by sophomore wing Joseph Stewart.
East Central improved to 6-4-1 on the season, while Meridian fell to 0-8-1. The Warriors defeated Meridian 5-0 earlier this season in a match played in Meridian.
In the first match of the night, the East Central women defeated Meridian 3-2. East Central got goals from sophomore forward Cailee Helen McClain of Starkville, freshman midfielder Kelsey Bayles from Northwest Rankin, and sophomore midfielder Aubree Patterson of Richland in the win. The match was tied 1-1 at the intermission.
