No. 19 ECCC Warriors Fall Short 25-5 in Battle with No. 1 Gulf Coast
The No. 19 ranked East Central Warriors hung tough with No. 1 Gulf Coast for the first 30 minutes of the matchup of MACJC South Division leaders, Thursday, Oct. 10, at Bailey Stadium in Decatur, before the Bulldogs used a pair of second half scores to pull away for the 25-5 win.
Gulf Coast went 80 yards in nine plays on its second possession, capped by a 29-yard pass from Chance Lovertich to Jymetre Hester.
The Bulldogs scored again on their next possession, as Austin Bolton scored from the three. Both PATs failed.
After reigning National Special Teams Player of the Week punter Robens Beauplan pinned the Bulldogs back on five, Lovertich was called for intentional grounding in the end zone. Sophomore defensive tackle Alvin Dempsey and freshman nose guard Joshua Ratcliff applied the pressure on the quarterback.
Beauplan would later kick a 36-yard field goal with 53 seconds to play to make the score 12-5 at the half.
Gulf Coast put the game away with a third quarter score on an 18-yard pass from Lovertich to Jalen Bracey and a fourth quarter 14-yard pass from Lovertich to Hester.
Oxford Emory Hands Warriors 5-1 Home Soccer Loss
Oxford College of Emory University scored two goals in the first half and three more in the second to pick up at 5-1 soccer win over the East Central Community College Warriors on Sunday, Oct. 13, at Bailey Stadium.
The ECCC Warriors fell to 6-10 overall on the season. The Oxford Emory Eagles from Oxford, Ga., improved to 8-2-1.
Scoring for East Central was freshman midfielder Quadarius Harris with his first career goal.
ECCC Soccer Teams Split with Hinds on Sophomore Night
A goal in the 49th minute propelled the East Central Lady Warriors to a 1-0 win over the visiting Hinds Lady Eagles, while the Warriors dropped a 4-1 match to MACJC North Division-leading Hinds in matches played Friday, Oct. 11, at Bailey Stadium on the ECCC campus in Decatur.
Sophomore forward Leah Anderson scored her team-leading 14th goal of the season on a penalty kick to give the Lady Warriors the win.
The loss to Hinds in the men’s game broke East Central’s three-match winning streak. Sophomore midfielder Jake Cockroft scored for the Warriors.
ECCC men win, Lady Warriors fall to Itawamba
The East Central Community College Warriors got a goal in each half en route to a 2-1 MACJC North Division soccer win over the Itawamba Indians Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Soccer Pitch in Decatur. In the first match of the day, the ECCC Lady Warriors lost 1-0 to Itawamba in two overtimes.
The win over the division-leading Indians was East Central’s third straight and moved the Warriors a step closer to qualifying for postseason play.
Scoring goals for East Central were freshman forward Rashun Ludgood (George County) and sophomore midfielder Terrell Johnson (Jackson, Murrah).
The Lady Warriors and Lady Indians battled through 90 minutes of regulation and into the second, and final, overtime period before Itawamba got the golden goal with 1:18 to play for the 1-0 win.
