After hard-fought losses in the consolation games of the Division 4-2A Tournament, both Union basketball teams drops top teams in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
The Lady Yellowjackets went on the road and lost 65-35 to Leland on Monday while the Jackets fell 53-27 to Coahoma on Tuesday.
The Union girls finish the season with a 17-14 record while the Jackets finish the season with a 20-8 record.
Leland girls 65, Union 35
The Lady Cubs opened up a big first half lead and cruised to a 30-point win over the Lady Yellowjackets to take a 30-point win.
Leland led 13-5 at the end of the first period and outscored Union 22-11 at the end of the first for a 35-16 halftime score. After each team scored 13 points in the third, Leland finished out the game by outscoring Union 17-6 in the fourth.
Ansley Rigby led Union with 16 points while Eryanna Mason had eight points.
Leland improved to 29-1 on the season.
Coahoma County 53, Union 27
The Yellowjackets drew the top-ranked team in Class 2A and saw their season come to an end in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
Coahoma dominated the first three periods as they led 15-8 at the end of the first and 28-10 at the half. Coahoma outscored Union 17-2 in the third to lead 45-12 going into the fourth. Union finished the game out by outscoring Coahoma 15-8 in the fourth.
Jamarcus Jones led Union with 11 points while Bryce Young, P.J. Gage and J.T. Vance each had three points apiece.
