Capital murder suspect, Sammy Patrick, who was captured last Friday at a Quiktrip convenience store in Byram, was officially charged Monday for the murder of Mary Deloise “Dee” Eady, who resided on Old Jackson Road north of Forest.
Scott County Sheriff Mike Lee said Tuesday morning that Patrick has been charged with capital murder, sexual assault, arson, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection to the death of the 73-year-old who was shot, and her body burned at her home December 30. Bond was denied for Patrick at an initial hearing held before Judge Bill Freeman on Monday.
“Thank you to all of the agencies that assisted with the capture of Sammy Patrick,” Scott County SO wrote on their Facebook page after the arrest. “Rankin County SO, Louisiana State Police, Mississippi Highway Patrol, US Marshal Service, New Orleans PD, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, and Byram PD. Thank you all for the help!”
Lee had said previously that the victim was on the phone with a relative when she told them she could hear her dog barking and wanted to go check on what was going on. Shortly afterward, another family member who had access to her security camera went and checked it and could tell something was wrong. He went to the home and found her fatally shot and burned.
Patrick had been spotted in Wilkerson County last week where officials said he allegedly robbed a Subway on Hwy. 61 in Woodville. Surveillance video at that time showed he was driving a black pickup truck which had been stolen from a house on Old Hwy. 21 in Forest.
At the time of Patrick’s arrest U.S. Marshals had been informed of a stolen vehicle out of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, that the suspect was reportedly driving. A marshal and a state trooper spotted the vehicle and the trooper pulled the vehicle over.
Prior to the murder of Eady, law enforcement had been searching for Patrick for multiple felony warrants of auto theft and burglary in Scott County as well as the surrounding counties. He is currently being held in the Scott County Jail.
