Below is a press release from the Mississippi Department of Transportation:
Commissioner Willie Simmons, Central Transportation District, joined officials in Rosedale on April 3 to break ground on a pedestrian improvement project.
The project, now underway, aims to improve pedestrian safety along Main St./State Route 1 in Rosedale with the installation of new sidewalks and replacement of existing sidewalks on both sides of roadway for half a mile. This includes the implementation of ADA-accessible connections from the West Bolivar Elementary and Middle School to residential neighborhoods in the area.
“At the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT), our priority is the safety of all Mississippians—both motorists and pedestrians,” said Simmons. “That is why safety improvements along pedestrian routes like this one in Rosedale are critical.”
Other officials at the groundbreaking ceremony included Rosedale Mayor Tracy Robinson, Rosedale Councilwoman Tracy Tucker and District 1 Supervisor Jacorius Liner. Officials and spectators watched as work got underway on the pedestrian improvement project during the ceremony.
“This is the kind of project that makes a community safer,” said Simmons. “It is important that children in our communities have safe pathways to get to and from school.”
The project was awarded to Simmons Erosion Control, Inc. of Lake. Work is expected to wrap up this summer.
