Macklin Cheatham, who trains at Chunky under coaches Bryan and Anthia Olmstead, recently made a significant leap in ranking at the Mississippi Swimming Long Course State Championships in Tupelo.
Cheatham won 3 gold medals and 5 silver medals, clearly signaling that he is a rising super star in Mississippi.
Though he had many notable swims over the 4-day meet, most notable was his gold in the 100-meter Butterfly. At the start of the race, he had an outstanding dive and quick execution of his underwater kicks which gave him an early body-length lead before he took his first stroke. At the 50-meter turn, he had a 2 body-length lead over the rest of the pack. Cheatham continued to extend his lead in the second 50 meters, finishing the race with a whopping 30 second lead over the next fastest swimmer.
Other notable swimmers from Chunky at the meet include Wyatt Cannon, who won his first medals (two bronze medals) in the 11-12 Boys 200m Freestyle and 200m Medley relays.
Mason Cheatham and Edie Pippin also clocked personal best times. And Maddux Cheatham supported the team.
