BASEBALL: Newton County Cougars Set For Decisive Playoff Game at Ripley

Just like last week, the Newton County baseball team finds itself in a must-win scenario in the Class 4A playoffs.

Newton County split two games with Ripley in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs, losing 2-0 on Friday but bouncing back and winning 2-1 in eight innings on Saturday to even the series.

SOFTBALL: Hatley, Union Softball Teams Trade Wins with Big Innings

Both Hatley and Union softball teams used a big inning to get a win last week in second-round Class 2A action.

Union took game 1 of the series on Friday, using a six-run sixth inning to take a 10-5 win. Hatley returned the favor on Saturday with a six-run fourth inning to take a 7-3 win.

BASEBALL: Newton County Academy Advances in Playoffs

The Newton County Academy baseball team had its hand full in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.

The Generals took two exciting wins, beating Porter’s Chapel 7-6 on Tuesday and then taking a 9-8 win on Thursday.

BASEBALL: Lake Hornets Sweep Richton with 31 Hits in Playoff Series

The Lake Hornets had another good week in the Class 2A playoffs.

The Hornets banged out 31 hits in two games, sweeping Richton in two games, winning 17-0 on Friday and 19-9 on Saturday.

Lake improved to 21-7 on the season and will take on the winner of Richton and St. Andrew’s in third-round play this week.
