SOFTBALL: Lady Cougars fall to Clarkdale in only game

The Newton County softball team only got in one game last week.

The Lady Cougars dropped a one-run game to Clarkdale as the Lady Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 4-3 walk-off win on Tuesday.

Friday’s game against Clinton was canceled due to rain.

Baseball: Union outlasts Quitman, falls to Lake

It was an up-and-down week for the Union baseball team.

The Yellowjackets scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning with walk-off double from Kooper Fultz to beat Quitman 19-18 on Tuesday.

Union ended the week with a 12-0 loss to Lake.

Tennis: Generals kick off season with takedown of Union, Leake Academy

The Newton County Academy tennis team got its season kicked off last week with a pair of matches.

NCA grabbed two wins, beating Union and Leake Academy by identical scores of 7-2.

After hosting Leake Academy on Monday and Philadelphia on Tuesday, NCA (2-0) will be off until after spring break.
