Basketball: Lake Sweeps Scott Central with Strong Finishes in Both Games

Lake only got in one game last week but came away with a sweep of rival Scott Central.

The Lady Hornets took a 33-17 win while the Hornets won 55-45 in overtime.

Lake will return to play this week as they play at Bay Springs on Tuesday in a division 5-2A contest.

Basketball: Lady Cougars Split Division Games; Cougars Fall in Tough Matchups

The Newton County Lady Cougars split a pair of division basketball games last week.

The Lady Cougars beat Leake Central 56-41 but fell 58-37 to Choctaw Central.

The Cougars lost both games last week, falling 82-64 to Leake and 75-72 to Choctaw Central in overtime.

Basketball: Lady Generals Soar Against the Lady Flyers for 14th Win

The Newton County Academy girls picked up another win last week to run their record to 14-1 on the season.

The Lady Generals easily handled the Meridian Lady Flyers 46-16.

Meanwhile the Generals dropped two games, falling 74-30 to the Meridian Flyers and 66-25 to Christ Covenant.

The school’s baseball team reached new heights as they opened the season with 27 straight wins and were ranked the No. 1 team in the NJCAA. They ended the season with a school-record 55 wins and finished tied for third.
