Edie Pippin and Mason Cheatham made history on Oct. 19 by becoming the first Newton County High School swimmers to medal at the MHSAA State Championships. Pippin hauled in a bronze medal for placing third in the 100-Yard Freestyle, while Cheatham secured a bronze medal in the 200-Yard Freestyle.

Swimming: Newton County Swimmers Make History with State Medals

For the first time in school history, two Newton County swimmers earned medals at the MHSAA Class I State Championships on Oct. 19. Mason Cheatham secured a bronze in the 200-yard freestyle, becoming the first boys’ swimmer from Newton County to win a state medal.
