Newton County got busy on the tennis courts last week with four matches.
County beat Brandon 4-3 on Tuesday and then dropped its first match to Northwest Rankin 4-3. County finished the week by beating Corinth 5-2 and Forest 7-0.
Newton County (4-1) hosted rival West Lauderdale on Tuesday starting at 4:30 p.m. On Friday, Newton County will play Madison Central and Clinton.
Newton County 4, Brandon 3
The Cougars took a close match against the Bulldogs on Tuesday.
In singles, Hayes Holliman lost 6-0, 6-1 at the boy’s spot while Josie Tullos won 6-1, 6-1 at the girl’s spot.
In boys’ doubles, Newton County took both points as Tate Baucum and Cole Tadlock won 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 1 spot. Cade Cooley and Braiden Estes won 2-6, 7-5, 10-3 in a third-set tiebreaker.
In girls’ doubles, Aleah McMullan and Samantha Boykin won 6-7(5), 6-4, 10-6 at the No. 1 spot while Laynee Spears and Reese Thomas lost 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot.
In mixed doubles, Caden Chaney and Ellie Russell lost 6-0, 6-1.
Northwest Rankin 4, Newton County 3
The Cougars dropped their first match the season on Thursday to Northwest Rankin.
Northwest took both singles match as Hayes Holliman lost 6-0, 6-0 on the boy’s side and Emman Beckwith lost 6-0, 6-0 on the girl’s side.
In boys’ doubles, Tate Baucum and Cade Cooley won 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot while Braiden Estes and Caden Chaney lost 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot.
In girls’ doubles, Aleah McMullan and Josie Tullos won 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 at the No. 1 spot while Laynee Spears and Reese Thoms lost 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot.
In mixed doubled, Cole Padlock and Samantha Boykin won 7-5, 7-5 for the final margin.
Newton County 5, Corinth 2
The Cougars took a solid win over Corinth on Saturday in the first of two matches.
In singles, Tate Baucum won 6-2, 6-4 on the boy’s side while Josie Tullos lost 6-4, 7-5 on the girl’s side.
Newton County swept the doubles matches. Cade Cooley and Cole Tadlock won 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot while Keaton Gray and Caden Chaney won 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot.
In girls’ doubles, Aleah McMullan and Samantha Boykin won 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot while Laynee Spears and Ellie Russell won 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 at the No. 2 spot.

The Cougars dominated the Bearcats with a shutout win in the second match of the day on Saturday.
In singles, Hayes Holliman won 6-0, 6-0 on the boy’s side while Samantha Boykin won 7-5, 6-1 on the girl’s side.
In boys’ doubles, Cade Colley and Keaton Gray won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while. Cole Tadlock and Caden Chaney won 7-5, 5-2 at the No. 2 spot.
