The area tennis teams continued their strong play this past week.
The Union tennis team remained unbeaten as they won four matches this past week while Newton County won three of its four matches.
The NCA tennis team won its only match and had two spots win the championship in the All-Area Tournament on Saturday.

Union Tennis
The Union tennis team had another busy week as they came away with four wins.
On Monday, Union beat Leake Academy 6-3. In boys doubles, Cooper Capps and Jude Feasel won 6-1 6-4 at the No. 1 spot while Hayden Ferguson and Levi Ferguson won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. In girls doubles, Julia Harrison and Denver McCory won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Annley Howell and Ava Smith won 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. In mixed doubles, Ethan Brasher and Rylee Pullin won 6-0, 6-0.
On Tuesday, Union beat Raleigh 7-0. In singles, Ashton Wilcher won 6-0, 6-0 on the boys side while Hannah Pullin won 6-0, 6-0 on the girls side. In boys doubles, Capps and Jude Feasel won 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 1 spot while Ferguson and Ferguson won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. In girls doubles, Harrison and McCoy won 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot while Howell and Smith won 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. In mixed doubles, Brasher and Pullin won 6-0, 6-0.
On Thursday, Union smashed McLaurin 7-0, losing only two games in the match. In singles, Wilcher won 6-0,6-0 on the boys side while Hannah Pullin won 6-0, 6-1 on the girls side. In boys doubles, Capps and Jude Feasel won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Ferguson and Ferguson won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. Union finished the week on Friday with a 7-0 win over Quitman. In singles, Wilcher won 6-0, 6-0 on the boys side and Hannah Pullin won 6-3, 6-2 on the girls side. In boys doubles, Jude Feasel and Capps won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Ferguson and Ferguson won by default. Newton County Tennis
Newton County won three of the four matches it played last week.
On Tuesday, the Cougars rolled 6-1 over Morton. In singles Fisher Edwards lost 6-3, 6-2 on the boys side while Alissa Luke won 6-0, 6-0 on the girls side. In boys doubles, Caden Chaney and Hayes Holliman won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Carson Davis and Langston Coleman ton 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. In girls doubles, Katie Lynne McDonald and Reese Thoms won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Abby Williams and Erin Tullos won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. In mixed doubles, Drew Walker and Ellie Russell won 6-0, 6-1.
On Thursday, Newton County beat Forest 6-1. In singles, Edwards lost 7-5, 0-6 10-3 on the boys side while Luke won 6-4, 6-0 on the girls side. In boys doubles, Chaney and Holliman won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot while Davis and Coleman won 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. In girls doubles, McDonald and Thoms won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Williams and Tullos won 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. In mixed doubles, Walker and Russell won 6-0, 6-0.
On Saturday, Newton County played two matches at Jones College. The first was a 4-3 loss to Brookhaven. In singles, Holliman won 6-2, 6-1 on the boys side while Luke lost 7-5, 6-2. In boys doubles, Chaney and Davis lost 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot while Coleman and Edwards lost 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. In girls doubles, McDonald and Thoms won 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot while William and Tullos lost 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. In mixed doubles, Walker and Russell won 7-5, 2-6, 11-9 in a third-set tiebreaker.
In the second match of the day on Saturday, County beat Stone County 6-1. In singles, Edwards won 1-6, 6-2, 10-8 on the boys side while Luke won 6-2, 6-0 on the girls side. In boys doubles, Chaney and Holliman won 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 1 spot while Davis and Coleman ton 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. In girls double, McDonald and Thoms won 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot while Williams and Tullos won 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. In mixed doubles, Walker and Russell lost 6-2, 6-2.
Newton County is now 10-4 on the season and will play at West Lauderdale on Tuesday and at West Jones on Thursday. They will then play at the Northwest Rankin Tournament on Saturday.
NCA Tennis
The Generals played one match this past week and took a shutout win over Porter’s Chapel on Monday in Vicksburg.
In girls singles, Madilyn Smith won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Jamie Stamper won 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot.
In girls doubles, Karlie Stamper and Cloe Weems won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Lance Parks and Brooklyn Vaughn won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot.
In boys singles, Isaac May won 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot while Trent Wright won 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 at the No. 2 spot. In boys doubles, Taylor Burt and Eli Herrington won 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Garrett Estes and Cash Weems won 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. In mixed doubles, Cami Weems and Andrew Boothe won 6-0, 6-0.
NCA also participated in the All-Area Tournament this past weekend.
In No. 2 boys doubles, Estes and Weems won after beating West Lauderdale 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals and then beat Lamar 6-2, 6-2 in the finals. In No. 1 boys doubles, Burt and Herrington lost 6-3, 7-6 (5) in the semifinals. In boys No. 2 doubles, Wright lost 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals while May lost 6-3, 6-4 in the first round. In mixed doubles, Weems and Booth beat West Lauderdale 6-7 (1), 6-2, 10-8 in their opening-round match before falling to Union 6-0, 6-0. In No. 2 girls singles, Parks lost 7-5, 7-5 to Enterprise in the first round while Stamper lost 3-6, 6-1, 10-8 to Enterprise in the first round. In No. 1 girls singles, Smith won the tournament after she beat Enterprise 6-0, 6-1 in the first round and then beat West Lauderdale in the finals.
