The Union Yellowjackets won two out of three contests last week on the baseball diamond.
Union opened up the week with a 10-2 win over Forest on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets then dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Newton County on Friday before hammering Morton 14-1 on Saturday.
Union will travel to Bay Springs on Tuesday for a non-division contest and will host the Bulldogs on Friday. On Saturday, Union will host Raleigh in a 1 p.m. contest.
Union 10, Forest 2
The Yellowjackets broke a tie game open with eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a win over the Bearcats on Tuesday.
Forest scored one in the third and fifth innings while Union scored two in the fourth as the game was tied after five innings. But Union exploded for eight runs in the sixth to take the win.
Union outhit Forest 9-3 on the contest. Henry Thornton was 3-for-4 in the contest to lead the Yellowjackets while Preston Germany, Kolton Cockerham, Rope Lovern and Peyton Posey all singled and scored a run. J.T. Vance also scored two runs for the Jackets.
Germany started and pitched five solid innings, giving up two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out four. Vance pitched the final two innings and gave up one hit while striking out four.
Union 14, Morton 1
The Yellowjackets had 11 hits and took advantage of seven errors to take a four-inning, run-rule victory on Saturday.
Union scored five in the first and second innings and two in the third and fourth.
J.T. Vance was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and four RBIs while Jaylon Buckley was 2-for-2 with a double, home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Peyton Posey was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored while Preston Germany was also 2-for-2. Kobe Casey scored four runs while Trevor Patchin scored two runs.
Henry Thornton pitched all four innings for Union, giving up just one hit and striking out eight.
