Lake’s Brady McGee and Union’s Jaylon Buckley can add another honor to their growing lists.
McGee and Buckley were recently named to the Rawlings Perfect Game Preseason Underclass All-American team for the Southeast Region.
The sophomore was up to his old tricks for the Hornets this season. McGee was hitting .478 thought eight games for the Hornets this season at the plate and had scored 14 runs. On the mound, McGee was 2-0 on the season with a 1.62 ERA in 17 1/3 innings pitched with 35 strikeouts.
McGee helped the Hornets to the third round of the Class 2A playoffs last season as he hit .500 with 51 run scored and 25 RBIs as he hit 10 doubles and seven triples. McGee was named to the team as a pitcher after he went 10-0 and posted a 1.07 ERA in 52.1 innings pitched and struck out 59.
McGee was also named to the Mississippi Association of Coaches Class 2A all-state team and was the Most Valuable Player in Division 5-2A.
McGee is also a standout in football and basketball as well. He was named to the Newton County Appeal’s all-county teams for both sports.
Buckley was off to a good start to the season as well, hitting .400 with 10 RBIs. Buckley was 1-2 on the season with a 2.53 ERA in five appearances. He had struck out 23 in 19.1 innings pitched.
Buckley had a standout season last year with a .403 batting average with 30 RBIs. On the mound, Buckley was 8-2 with a 1.83 ERA with 90 strikeouts in 46 innings pitched.
