Football season is right around the corner for area high school football teams.
Newton County Academy will get the ball rolling as they started practice on Monday with a one-a-day practice.
“We are going to go once a day at 5 p.m.,” NCA coach Rob Roberts said. “The sun goes down over the trees about that time of day and it’s not bad after that. We will generally go a couple of hours for this week.”
Roberts said his numbers were down somewhat.
“We’ll have about 22 out from what I can tell,” Roberts said. “We are thin in a couple of positions but that’s what we have and just play with what we have.”
The Generals will practice this week and then travel to Pelahatchie to play a controlled scrimmage East Rankin at 3 p.m.
“We’ve played them before in the past and it will be a good test to see where we are at,” Roberts said. “They are a lot bigger school that us
NCA starts school on Monday, Aug. 12 and will play in a jamboree on Thursday, Aug. 15 at Tri-County Academy. The Generals will play Carroll Academy at 3:30 p.m. and Leake Academy at 4:30 p.m. Each team will play with a 20-minute running clock.
Newton, Newton County, Lake and Union can begin practicing on Monday, Aug. 5.
