In a battle of local rivals, the Lake girls took a big win over Union.
The Lady Hornets beat Lake 41-21 on Thursday. They also dropped a 48-30 contest to Lamar School.
Union won its other game, beating Scott Central 46-38.
Lake girls 41, Union 21
The Lady Hornets used a big second period and took a 20-point win over the Lady Yellowjackets on Thursday.
Lake led 8-4 at the end of the first period and then outscored the Lady Yellowjackets 18-4 in the second to lead 26-8 at the half. Lake extended its lead in the third period, outscoring Union 11-5 in the third to lead 37-13 going to the fourth. Union took the fourth period 8-4 for the final margin.
Kyunnia Pinkston led Lake with 10 points while Beautiful Carr had seven points. Ty’tana Patrick, Jaylen Grant and Annalisa Towner each had six points apiece.
Gracyn Tillman and Rymia Craft each had six points apiece while Elle Killen had four points.
Union girls 46, Scott Central 38
The Lady Yellowjackets used a big fourth period to take an eight-point win over the Lady Rebels.
Each team scored 11 points in the first period and Union outscored Scott Central 11-10 in the second period to lead 22-21 at the half. Scott Central took the third period 13-7 and led 34-29 going to the fourth. But Union outscored Scott Central 17-4 in the fourth period to pull away and take the win.
Gracyn Tillman led Union with 14 points while Rymia Craft had 13 points. Destiny Campbell had 10 points while Elle Killen had eight points.
Lamar girls 48, Lake 30
The Lady Raiders pulled away in the second half and took an 18-point win over the Lady Hornets.
Lamar jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the first period while Lake took the second period 14-8 as the Lady Raiders led 22-19 at the half. Lamar then pulled away in the third period by outscoring Lake 19-8 to take a 41-27 lead into the fourth. Lamar took the final period 7-3 for the final margin.
Harmonie Jones led Lamar with eight points while Annalisa Towner had six points. Beautiful Carr and Jadaysa Patrick each had four points.
Newton County boys 55, Scott Central 43
The Cougars came back from an early deficit and took a 12-point win over the Rebels.
Scott Central jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the first period but County outscored the Rebels 19-10 in the second to cut the lead to 25-24 at the half. County then outscored Scott Central 20-7 in the third to take a 44-32 lead into the fourth, where each team scored 11 points for the final margin.
Keaton Gray led Newton County with 25 points while Dasan King had 11 points. Jaylen Torguson also chipped in six points.
