Residents of Union are invited to kick off the new year with a focus on health and community at the town's inaugural wellness event, set for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Union Community Center at the city park.
Hosted by the Union Chamber of Commerce, the free event will feature representatives from local businesses offering wellness services, allowing attendees to learn about options available right in Union without needing to travel elsewhere. Participating businesses include Ochsner Laird Hospital, Hardy Fitness & Health, Performance Therapy, Pelvic Floor Therapy, Robinson Family Dental, Transformation Spa, and Union Karate Club., clinic, personal trainers, massage services such as Transformation Spa, and Robinson Family Dental, which is highlighting new aesthetic services in addition to traditional dental care.
"We're just trying to promote our local businesses and let people know you don’t have to go outside Union for health services," said Tammara Rigby with the Union Chamber of Commerce. "There's so many things available right here that people don't even know about. Along with our hospital and clinic, we have personal trainers, we’ve got a gym, we’ve got massage services. It’s a fun way to promote our community services and show what Union has to offer to keep people local."
The morning will begin at 9 a.m. with an optional light warmup session outside the community center, led by Jamie Griffis with Hardy Fitness and Health. Participants can join in or simply watch before heading indoors for the remainder of the event. Also providing a live demonstration during the event will be the Union Karate Club.
Throughout the event, businesses will be set up at tables and sharing information about their services in a casual, walk-around format. Attendees can also enjoy light refreshments and enter drawings for generous door prizes donated by participating businesses, including a one-month free personal training membership with Hardy Fitness & Health, a Performance Therapy swag plus a $50 visa gift card, and more.
"This is totally new – we've never done anything like this in Union," Rigby noted. “So if you want to know what wellness benefits that Union has to offer, come out, get some information, and enjoy yourselves!”
