This week, the Union High School band is having their annual band camp. Band camp lasts from Monday to Friday, and it is always the week before the Neshoba County Fair. The band directors are Adam and Katie Devenney. At band camp, rookie members learn the fundamentals of marching, and veteran members are refreshed on their marching fundamentals.
This year, the band will also learn marching drill for their upcoming show. This year’s show is The Chronicles of Narnia, and the band members are very excited. The color guard will also learn their routine for the show, and the drums will learn their music for the show. The drum major for the 2023-2024 year is MaryEllen Moore. The 2023-2024 color guard captains are Claire Hennington and Mckinlee Bankston. The drum captains are Elijah Kilpatric and Lauryn Roebuck, and the sideline captain is Miranda Rigdon. The Pride of Union has fourteen seniors this year, and the seniors are MaryEllen Moore, Ava Grace Boatwright, Chloe Ray, Claire Hennington, Dalton Chisolm, Elijah Kilpatrick, Hallie Smith, Javonte Moore, Kinsley Johnson, Lauryn Roebuck, Mckinlee Bankston, Nic Henry, Peyton Dean, and Walker Ware. Throughout the season, the band will compete at various competitions around the state. The band’s goal is to receive all superior ratings at their regional contest at Neshoba Central High School and then move on to bring home the state marching band championship. If you are not able to make it to one of the band’s many competitions, you can always watch them on Friday nights underneath the stadium lights. The band usually performs at half-time, but if they do not, they will perform after the game. I hope you are ready to cheer the band on to victory this season! Wish them a good camp and an even better season! Go, jackets, go!
