Union FFA recently competed in the ag mechanics competition at the Dixie National Rodeo. The FFA took a boot and hat rack built and designed by UHS junior Hunter Sullivan.
The FFA also took a hayspear built and designed by two juniors from UHS Blane Cooper and Kale Grayson. This week is National FFA week for FFA chapters around the country. Union FFA will celebrate this by having multiple dress up days throughout the week.
The dress up days include: chapter shirt day, farmers only day, canned food drive day and FFA spirit day. FFA is full of students and teachers that provide a family atmosphere for all.
Some of the students in Union’s ag two class were asked a simple question: What does FFA mean to you?
UHS FFA vice president Kaitlyn Harrison said, “FFA is like a getaway for me. It’s kind of like a second family.” Kaitlyn is a senior at UHS.
UHS junior Zeus Thompson said, “FFA means making new friends, having a good time everyday, and learning valuable life skills to help me in the workforce.”
UHS senior Nicolas Fletcher said, “FFA means getting real work experience outside of the workplace at school.”
UHS junior Kale Grayson said, “FFA means getting extra opportunities to work on things, and getting more opportunities than most kids do in order to prepare us for the workplace.”
All of the students in FFA enjoy the fellowship and family FFA brings. These students also understand that FFA is preparing them for the real world outside of Union. I am also a member of FFA, and FFA, to me, means having people around you who actually care about your well being.
These people genuinely want to help you in any way they can, and these people want to see you thrive outside of high school. The Union FFA advisor Scott Breedlove was also asked what FFA means to him, and he said, “FFA is a national student led organization, and it is the largest and one of the first student led organizations in the United States.
It gives kids an opportunity to show their leadership qualities as well as the skills they have learned in their ag class. It is also a very family oriented organization that gives kids who are not a part of another club a place to participate.” FFA is a great asset to Union High School, and kids should be encouraged to join the FFA when they come of age.
