Our local sports teams and bands have been preparing for the fall all summer. The Union High School (UHS) football team has held numerous practices throughout the week. We hope the team will be successful again this season.
The UHS band has also been hard at work, readying their 2024 show, Avatar. They completed band camp the week before the Neshoba County Fair, where they learned parts of their new performance. We wish the band good luck in their upcoming season and look forward to cheering them on to victory.
The UHS cheerleaders have been practicing diligently. They did a phenomenal job at cheer camp this year, and I know Mrs. Casey will once again coach the team to the best of her ability. We hope to see them achieve victory this season as well.
The volleyball team has been practicing all summer, gearing up for what we hope will be another successful season. They’ve recently started their games for this year.
As the school year begins, students are excited for football season and all the related activities. Union also has some collegiate athletes to be proud of. Sydney Coward and Kylie Madden have recently moved into Southeastern Baptist College to prepare for their upcoming basketball season. Lauryn Roebuck has also moved into Southwest Mississippi Community College, where she will play softball for the Bears.
Additionally, three Union High graduates are currently attending band camp at Mississippi State University: Sarah Chandlee and Hallie Smith, both clarinetists, and Claire Hennington, a member of the color guard. Nic Henry is at Mississippi College, playing alto saxophone in the band. Dalton Chisholm (trombone), Elijah Kilpatrick (drumline), and Kinsley Johnson (trumpet) are part of East Central Community College’s band.
We know several UHS alumni play sports at various schools, and we’d love to recognize them. If you know where they are playing, please email me.
