Previously, Kallie and I have featured the UHS and UMS principals. Our last Union Public School principal is Union Elementary School principal Mrs. Hannah Wren. Mrs. Wren graduated from Newton County High School and then studied at Mississippi State University where she earned her education degree. Mrs. Wren has been married to UHS’s head football coach, Jordan Wren, for fifteen years. The couple has four children: Livi Jane, Ivy Rae, Jon Luke, and Lennen Mae. Throughout her fourteen-year-long education career, Mrs. Wren has taught middle and high school math courses and served as a testing coordinator in other school districts. She is currently working through her third year as Union Elementary principal. When asked what she loves most about being principal, she responded, “My favorite part about being principal is getting to form relationships with students when they are young. Being able to watch students grow personally and academically is truly special.” Mrs. Wren enjoys watching students succeed in different areas, not just in school subjects.
Mrs. Jackie Moore, a third-grade teacher at UPSD, explains how Mrs. Wren supports staff and students: “Mrs. Wren is dedicated to UES. She is approachable and open-minded. Her staff feels comfortable coming to her about concerns or just sharing a positive experience. Mrs. Wren encourages her staff to continue our hard work and dedication to our students as well as each other. She sees the best not only in our students but her staff as well.” Mrs. Moore’s statement sheds light on teachers’ opinions. Additionally, students think Mrs. Wren works hard for UES. Eli Stevens, a fourth-grade student, provides an overview of the principal: “She’s nice. She does well with the elementary as a principal. She’s a cool person.” We also asked Eli if he could ever be principal, and he said, “Maybe not because that’s a job for a good principal like her. I don’t really know how to make big choices.” Eli recalls his favorite memory regarding Mrs. Wren: “She asked me to show the new projectors in the P.E. gym. I’m showing the students how to do all the new technology stuff. That’s a cool thing that she let me do.” Mrs. Wren builds relationships with students, and Eli’s example supports that statement. Mrs. Wren understands different students’ capabilities by making an effort to get to know each student. Kayelynne Pientowski, another fourth-grade student, adds, “She’s really nice. When she comes to our classroom, she says ‘hey’ to everybody, and not just one person.” Kayelynne also agreed that Mrs. Wren works hard for the students of UES. Because these students have known Mrs. Wren for three years, they can provide accurate information. Mrs. Wren truly acts with the best intentions for UES.
Mrs. Wren tries to make UES the best it can be, and she does a great job. Staff appreciate her dedication and interests in anything and everything. Students enjoy Mrs. Wren’s smiles and efforts to make school fun. The UES principal truly supports many different things, not just school work. Mrs. Wren is most definitely a supporter inside and outside of school.
