We are getting close to the start of the new school year, and the Union Public School District has made a couple of changes in preparation for the new year. First of all, UPSD is expanding its Prek-K facilities. As most of you know, UPSD has been building a new classroom building for Pre-K students. In the fall, the school hopes to be able to teach many more little Jackets. Also, UPSD has welcomed back superintendent Dr. Tyler Handsford. The parents, staff, and students are very glad to have him back as the superintendent. Also, if you drive by the front of the high school, you will see a big brick construction. This is the brick entryway that was advertised throughout the previous school year, and it is coming along very nicely. Another good thing that I have heard about this upcoming school year is that students will continue to eat for free. This is an amazing thing, and I am so glad that Union has been able to allow students to eat for free. I recently graduated from Union, and I was a part of many different clubs, sports, and organizations. I know many students who will be juniors and seniors this year who are hoping to have a successful year like we had last year. I know the UHS cheerleaders have had a successful time at camp, the band is having their camp this week, and I know the rest of the sports teams have been practicing hard all summer to gear up for the fall. As a community, we should all wish them the best of luck during their future endeavors, but we should also remind them to pay attention to their grades just as much as they pay attention to their sports. We also need to encourage them to stay close to God, and make sure to always be a good person. I will always be a Yellowjacket, and do not forget, go, Jackets, go!
