The Union Public School District Board of Trustees approved Monday Superintendent Tyler Hansford’s recommendation and named Zach Robinson the next principal of Union High School.
The move comes after roughly two months of a thoughtful and thorough search led by UPSD Hansford and UHS counselor Deanna Rush with support from the UHS School Leadership Team.
“Mr. Robinson loves UHS and is a loyal Yellow Jacket through and through,” Rush said. “He’s a strong Christian leader who will lead our staff and students with integrity, fairness, and consistency, and I’m very excited to kick off the 2020-2021 school year with him.”
Robinson is a 2003 graduate of Union High School. Following high school, he attended ECCC. From there, he transferred to Mississippi State and earned his degree in 2008. He earned his master’s degree in educational leadership in 2015 from Arkansas State University. Robinson has been employed with the Union Public School District for 3 years as a teacher and coach. Prior to that, he spent a number of years in Scott County in similar roles.
“I’ve known Zach Robinson for a long time, but it was during our time together at Union Middle School that I really picked up on his leadership capabilities,” Hansford said. “He completed his internship with me there, and I was always impressed with how he handled situations with firm and fair consistency. As the team and I began to think of the type of leader UHS needed, his qualities matched a lot of what we were looking for. Zach has some life experiences that set him up to have a lot of grit. In schools, grit is important. He understands students and has a way of motivating them to be their best and achieve their best.”
Robinson is excited to take the reins of his alma mater.
“I am truly grateful for the opportunity to be the next principal at Union High School,” Robinson said. “I am excited to work alongside the amazing staff at UHS and the community that supports the school in so many ways. The opportunity is a blessing to my family and me. Union is very special, and we are vested in this school district and community.”
