The Union Police Department announced on Jan. 8 the arrest of three individuals in connection with a commercial burglary that occurred at Tri-C Wood Products of Union.
In their statement, the Union P.D. said that Tri-C Wood Products contacted the Union Police Department on Dec. 15, 2025, with concerns that someone may have been entering the building after business hours for malicious purposes. Officers initiated an investigation; however little actionable evidence was available at the time.
During the course of the investigation, an old wagon and wheelbarrow were discovered missing from the property. This development led officers to identify two suspects, who were later confirmed through video evidence. Further investigation revealed that the suspects had also stolen significant amount of loose copper at an initial estimate of $1,150, thought totals are still being assessed as the investigation continues.
Authorities determined that David Smith and Shannon Jenkins, of Union, were both recently hired employees of Tri-C Wood Products at the time, aiding officers in narrowing the scope of the investigation.
As a result of the investigation, Investigator J. Grimes, alone with Officers T. Stevens, D. Glover, C. Mapp, and D. Gilmore obtained warrants and took both Smith and Jenkins into custody. When located on property, Jenkins fled on foot for a short distance before surrendering without further incident.
Interviews conducted with Smith and Jenkins led officers to identify a third suspect, Isaiah Tilley. Evidence showed that Tilley assisted in the sale of the stolen property.
After the investigation, Smith has been charged with commercial burglary, Jenkins was charged with commercial burglary and resisting arrest, and Tilley was charged with accessory after the fact.
The Union Police Department ended their statement by saying all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty and then thanked Tri-C Wood Products for their cooperation, while pledging their commitment to protecting local businesses and holding offenders accountable.
