Water service has been restored in the town of Decatur following a major main line break earlier today. Residents are now under a boil water notice until further notice.
According to Mayor Max Anderson, the break occurred on Fifth Avenue and involved an eight-inch PVC line. The damaged section—approximately four feet in length—was replaced after crews cut and clamped both ends. Water had to be shut off at the well to allow for repairs.
While some areas experienced reduced pressure, others were left without water entirely.
Mayor Anderson noted that it may take time for full pressure to return across the system and that hydrants may be opened to release air from the lines.
The boil water notice will remain in effect until samples are tested and cleared, a process that could take a day or more. The notice is a standard health precaution following a significant loss of water pressure.
Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
