A Union Public School District (UPSD) bus known as the “Purple Butterfly” was involved in a rear-end collision this afternoon shortly after student dismissal. According to an official notice shared with families via Parent Square and posted on the district’s Facebook page, the incident resulted in no injuries and only minimal to no visible damage to the bus.
School staff and local law enforcement responded swiftly to the scene. All students aboard the bus, as well as the bus driver and the driver of the other vehicle, were reported to be safe.
As a precaution, students were rostered and transferred to another bus to complete their route home. The district noted that while drop-offs will be delayed, all students are expected to arrive home safely.
In a statement, UPSD Superintendent Tyler Hansford emphasized the district’s commitment to student safety:
“Unfortunately, accidents do happen. We are grateful that all students, staff, and the other driver are safe. We’re also thankful for well-maintained buses and well-trained staff who know how to respond when things like this happen.”
