The Newton County volleyball team improved to 12-2 on the season as they picked up two more wins last week.
The Lady Cougars hammered Enterprise on Tuesday, winning 3-0. The Lady Cougars won 25-14, 25-13 and 25-16 to take the win.
The Lady Cougars then took a 3-1 win over Lake. The two teams split the first two sets as County won the first set 25-22. Lake took the second set 25-20 to even up the match. County then finished off by winning the third set 25-20 and the fourth set 25-19.
Newton County is scheduled to host Union on Tuesday and then play St. Andrew’s and Enterprise on Thursday in a doubleheader match.
Union
The Lady Yellowjackets had a busy week on the volleyball courts.
Union beat Kosciusko 3-0 on Monday and then beat West Lauderdale 3-0 on Thursday. They finished with a 3-0 loss to Lamar School on Thursday.
Union then played in the Pearl Invitational on Saturday and beat Northeast Lauderdale, Lake and Warren Central 2-0. They lost 2-1 to Hartfield Academy and then beat Neshoba Central 2-0 to finish out the tournament.
Union moved to 15-7 on the season and is scheduled to play at Neshoba Central on Monday and at Newton County on Tuesday.
Lake
The Lady Hornets also had a busy week.
The Lady Hornets lost 3-1 to Newton County on Thursday and then played in the Pearl Invitational Tournament.
On Saturday, they lost 2-0 to Union, falling 25-23 and 25-13. They bounced back and beat Northeast Lauderdale 2-0, winning 25-22 and 25-18. They also took a hard-fought win over Choctaw Central, winning 28-26 and 25-14.
They then lost 2-1 to Petal. They split sets as Petal won the first set 25-11 while Union took the second set 26-24. Petal won the tiebreaker set 15-8.
Lake, now 10-4 on the season, has just one game scheduled this week as they play at Pisgah.
Newton
The Lady Tigers won both of its matches last week, beating Bay Springs and Forest.
On Monday, Newton traveled to Bay Springs and took a 3-2 win. On Tuesday, Newton traveled to Forest and took a 3-2 win.
Newton improves to 6-1 on the season and will host Pelahatchie this week in their only scheduled match.
Sebastopol
The Lady Bobcats fell to 3-9 on the season and took a pair of tough losses last week.
The Lady Bobcats fell 3-2 to Clarkdale and then 3-1 to Enterprise.
Sebastopol is scheduled to return to action this week as they play at Pelahatchie on Monday. They will play at Ethel on Monday in a district contest.
